To The Andover Voters:
I’m excited to be running for reelection to the Andover Select Board! This year’s town election takes place on March 25.
I look forward to serving the community for another term, to continue the momentum of moving Andover forward.
I have a demonstrated record and a strong focus on the taxpayers as well as the financial health of Andover.
I remain committed to holding down the rate of increase in property taxes in the development of the annual operating budget and focus on Andover’s long term financial health.
During the next term my focus will include ensuring that redevelopment of the old town yard project is completed as planned and the proceeds from the sale of the land offsets the borrowing costs of the new town yard building. This was the plan when the project was approved.
Increasing communications with residents on items being discussed is a continued goal and providing accurate timely information. During this past 3 years there has been progress in outbound information including:
The Text alert service – residents can subscribe to get real time information
During the recent years we have accomplished many needed projects and initiatives all within prop 2.5 including:
New Ballardvale Fire station – Completed on time and within the operating budget.
Andover Senior Center expansion and renovation – Completed on time and within the operating budget.
New Andover Municipal Services facility – Completed on time and within the operating budget.
Redevelopment of the old town yard property – Completion of the RFP process and selected a development partner. A major step as the Historic Mill District continues to grow.
Acquired 44 acres of open space land for potential future active and passive recreation.
Addressing Andover’s underfunded pension obligation – Completion of the pension bond process saving Andover taxpayers over $100M in over the next 18 years.
For the next 3 years I plan on working to continue the development of the Historic Mill District. This includes finishing the agreement of the selected developer chosen for the old Town Yard site. This proposed development reflects significant community input that will include: community gathering spaces, retail/amenities, and housing. This development will include reoccurring new revenue sources. The sale of the land also offsets some of the costs of the new Andover Municipal Services facility, which opened in 2019.
I will also work to plan to expand passive and active recreation opportunities. These include a plan for the recently acquired 44 acres on Chandler Road, improved utilization of Rec Park.
Andover is a great place to live and work and raise a family, offering great schools and quality services.
Andover can and should be attractive to all generations – where seniors and young families can enjoy Andover’s quality of life.
I respectfully ask for your vote on Tuesday, March 25 to allow me to continue to be your voice.
Thank you,
Alex Vispoli
